Hariphunchai Temple

Hariphunchai Temple or “Wat Phra That Hariphunchai “ in Thai word.

Hariphunchai Temple is a Buddhist temple (wat) in Lamphun, Thailand. The temple's origins date from the 11th century but the central stupa is thought to originate in the 9th century.

Wat Phra That Hariphunchai's earliest origins were in 897 when the then king of Hariphunchai is said to have built a stupa (now the central stupa) to house a hair of the Buddha. The present compound, founded by Hariphunchai King Athitayarai, dates from 1044.

Go to Wat Phra That Hariphunchai is easy. You can walk from the Lamphun Transport Station for about 15 minute. (Click picture below to find the route.)

It is Hariphunchai National Museum opposite.

Displays and exhibits include historical development and archaeological items found in Lamphun. These include prehistorical human skeletons and objects of arts from the Dvaravati, Hariphunchai, Lanna and Rattanakosin periods. A chamber in devoted to a collection of inscription stones in Mon and Lanna scripts. Another displays ancient utensils, Lanna indigenous arts and carvings.
The museum is open on Wednesday-Sunday from 8.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. The admission is 100 baht.
